Charitable Giving

The true meaning of life is to plant trees under whose shade you do not expect to sit.
~ Nelson Henderson

Decisions made in the pursuit of our business reflect the value we place on the needs of our employees, our customers and our community. This same value flows naturally to our corporate giving program. We believe a corporate giving program is about giving, about putting aside business goals and focusing on where there's a need to be met - especially those that concern our employees, customers and community. We think of it as planting trees that we will never sit under - though we do reap the satisfaction of knowing a tree has been planted.

We give in lots of little places - places that hold special meaning to our employees, customers and community. To that end, our program is widely varied and changes each year. For more information on each organization, please click the link below.

In support of causes that are meaningful to our employees, we have given to: Because of customer involvement in causes that are meaningful to them, we have donated to: In our local community, we support Womenade of Greater Squamscott (www.womenadenh.org), an organization that raises money to help local people in crisis. It is done without red tape or forms to fill out. Requests for help remain anonymous and come from trustworthy community sources, such as school nurses, guidance counselors, doctor's offices, clergy and friends.

Meaningful to the Sewall family (owners of TradeWinds) are the Jimmy Fund and the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. In memory of Chelsea Sewall (1982 - 2005), we supported the Jimmy Fund through our major sponsorship of the 2007 and 2008 SeaView Technology Golf Tournaments. Chelsea was a patient at Dana Farber Jimmy Fund for the 7 years she battled cancer. The Sewall family will always be grateful for the loving support and care she received there. The Jimmy Fund supports the fight against cancer in children and adults at Boston's Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. www.jimmyfund.org

In 2009, we partnered with Make-A-Wish Foundation of New Hampshire and the Landmark Benefit Golf Tournament. This nonprofit wish-granting organization has an unprecedented 111 wishes to grant this year and we desired to be a major part of that effort. The 11th Annual Landmark Benefit Golf Tournament to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of New Hampshire was held June 22, 2009. This annual event is the single largest private fundraiser for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of New Hampshire and Judi Sewall of TradeWinds has accepted a prominent position as a member of the board of directors.

Holiday Giving:

New in 2007 was our sponsorship of a wish through Make A Wish Foundation (www.wish.org), which we made in honor of all of our customers.

In 2008, in honor of our customers, we sponsored a camper to attend The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp (www.holeinthewallgang.org) that was inspired and founded by Paul Newman for children coping with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses. Established in 1988, in Ashford, CT, the Camp is a nonprofit-residential summer camp and year-round center for children living with illness. Each summer about 1,000 children between the ages of seven and fifteen from across the country and abroad attend free of charge. It is more than a place where children have fun, although it is certainly that; the purpose of Camp is to reeducate, redirect and restore a sense of possibility in its campers. It is a place where children with serious illnesses learn that they can do more than they ever thought they could.

In 2009, in the spirit of holiday giving and in appreciation of all our customers, we chose to make a wish come true for a young boy through the Make-A-Wish Foundation. We sponsored the complete wish of Logan, an 8-year-old boy with a life threatening illness. Logan's wish was to go on a shopping spree. As his wish was fulfilled, wonderful memories were built for Logan and for his family.
